Jumping on the bandwagon

Well, after reading, and enjoying staying up to date with people through their own blogs I figured I would try it out for myself.

Sam and I just celebrated his 27th birthday on Saturday with family who came up to surprise him. We grilled out on our foreman grill for the first time making hamburgers and enjoying his caramel butterscotch birthday cake. His sister and her husband gave Sam a pair of sunglasses with the sort of metallic colors that change as you move the glasses. His parents gave him some funny cards and a set of political playing cards with caricatures of the individual politicians (the democrats on the blue and republicans on the red) that had silly quotes to try and capture their personality. And I got him a 5x5x5 rubix cube that he worked on for 4 hours yesterday. He has actually made quite a bit of progress! I admire his persistence and concentration because I know I could never figure it out!

The week before I took a trip up to Bay City and Saginaw, Michigan to visit some of my relatives. I hadn't been up there for a little over 3 years and it was my first time driving it by myself (9 hours!). I learned that it isn't really that hard for me to entertain myself while I am driving. :) There is something about driving alone because you can listen to whatever you want (thanks to Rush Limbaugh for keeping me laughing and entertained for 3 hours each way), sing at the top of your lungs, catch up with friends, and even car dance a little bit. I was definately drumming the steering wheel for a decent portion of the drive.

I was able to see my Grandmother and talk to her about her and Grandpa's wedding, my mom's childhood, and hear some silly stories from back in the day. I have always been intrigued by the different choice of vocabulary and perspective from her generation. She even informed me that on their wedding night their hotel room had 2 twin beds! I also saw my Uncle Ron and we went on several very lengthy drives where we talked and saw deer, phesants, and an egret. My uncle has a passion for nature that I have never seen in anyone else before. He is the type of guy that I could see living in a tree house and never missing the modern day convienences that we have grown so accustomed to.

I also had a chance to visit Daddy every day I was there, which was of course hard, but something I had been needing for a long time. I was able to sit and pray, reflect, and open my heart during my visits. I miss him so much but yet, I have an overwhelming peace knowing that he is rejoicing in heaven with the Father. Selfishly, I want him with me always, but there is a joy in understanding he is happier than he ever was on earth and that I will be reunited with him one day! :) Praise God for that!!

I guess I will sign off on my first post. If no one but me enjoys reading it, that's fine. Maybe it will help me organize my thoughts better, because I am sure we can all agree sometimes we all get overwhelmed with all we are trying to keep straight in our minds. :) I hope God blesses everyone in their day today!!

Love,
Christy
